Uiro

I decided to try my hand at Traditional Japanese Sweet. Uiro is a type of Japanese steamed cake made of rice flour and sugar. It is similar to mochi.

Originally I wanted to do a Japanese style Tea Party for some friends, but things fell through and it didn’t happen (sad face). But do look forward to pictures of a western style tea party that I hosted over the summer!

UIRO

100g Rice flour
80g Sugar
250g Water
2 1/2 tsp flavouring
Pinch of salt

1) Add the sugar and salt to the rice flour.

2) Add water and whisk till combined

3) Add the flavouring and colouring (if you want)

4) Pour into container.

5) Cover tightly with cling wrap, be sure to poke a lot of holes with a fork so that steam does not gather,

METHOD 1 MICROWAVE
1) Set microwave to 3 minutes and 15 seconds, place container within microwave and press start. I have a 1100 watt microwave so your timing may be different depending on the wattage of your microwave. Here is a handy chart for microwave wattage conversion.
2) Remove from microwave after it is done.
3) Remove cling wrap and let cool for 10 minutes before placing into fridge.

METHOD 2 STEAMER
1) Set timer on steamer for 30 minutes.
2) Remove from steamer.
3) Remove cling wrap and let cool for 10 minutes before placing into fridge.
