2017 – what a year so far

Hey Everyone!

I know I know, I’ve been MIA for almost a year now and I’m not proud of it. RL got out of control really quickly after that post. I’ve spent most of 2016 renovating/updating my home and I never realized how much work that was (just painting the entire house took forever).

Now that my kitchen went from this…

…to this.

You might be thinking “Oh, so videos will happen again?” well… you are most certainly wrong. We’re looking to move (yay). The NSSSO and I are looking to move (hopefully) soon and we’ve been given strict instructions not to touch anything to ruin the perfection that is staging. So no… no new videos anytime soon (which gives me time to research what I want to make anyway…). But I’ll try my best to post more Meal Deals in the meantime.

This was a pretty short update… soooo I guess that’s all folks! #badblogger

Summerlicious 2016: Hapa Izakaya

Hello Everyone!

So, Summerlicious might be over this year, but it doesn’t mean that the reviews have stopped!

I went with a bunch of friends (including Laugh Live Eat )for our yearly Summerlicious excursion. This year, we tried a Japanese Izakaya, which I’m not generally for. This is usually because if I’m going to eat little bits of appetizers during Summerlicious, I might as well get the full feel of them during a regular meal. But, the menu looked intriguing enough for me to say yes.

Meal Deal: Kiu

Hello Everyone!

Wow I’ve been remiss in my blogging duties. The NSSSO reminded me the other day that I had blog that I am responsible for… not just the eating part. So here I am, making up for lost time (?), if this counts in any way that is.

My first post this summer is the new(ish) Japanese Izakaya in what is now known as Downtown Markham (I have yet to figure out where Uptown Markham is… although there are signs eluding to it… perhaps they are condos…). It was an experience for sure. We tried to make a reservation for Friday night, and lo and behold, we were told they were completely booked. Is this restaurant really that good? We tried again on a weekday and got a reservation.

It’s a nice place, I want to say modern… but what place isn’t nowadays? Instead, I’m going to paint you a picture with nothing and say that it reminds me of a larger more expensive looking version of Guu. Where Guu has wooden tables and a lack of seating area, Kiu has seating in spades. A sushi bar is set to one side so you can watch them as they work. The kitchen is open for all to see, hence they added bar seating there. The experience is sort of like being sat at a chef’s table.

Meal Deal: Momofuku Noodle Bar and Milk Bar

Hello everyone!

Another week, another Meal Deal. I hung out with my friend Laughliveat and another friend over the weekend. We checked out Momofuku Noodle Bar and Milk Bar since none of us had ever visited the place. It really was quite an experience, why don’t I tell you about it.

The restaurant is modern with an emphasis on blonde wood. The place is really much smaller than I expected. The service wasn’t bad, but the seating arrangements aren’t my favourite. Sharing tables with strangers is always an awkward adventure, but how else do they seat the amount of people that show up if they have little seating?

Meal Deal: MeNami

Hello Everyone!

It’s been a while and I have been terrible at posting, but have no fear, a new Meal Deal is well on its way.

So, my friend was travelling to Asia and wanted to borrow a universal adapter for her trip. We made plans to eat dinner and well… why not try out something new while we’re at it right? Since mutual meeting ground appeared to be Yonge and Finch, we decided to try a restaurant my colleague recommended.

MeNami bills itself as the first genuinely traditional Udon House in Ontario. What is an udon house and how is it different from Ramen joints is beyond me. But, off we went! The interior is eclectically hipster, clearly built for younger people who wanted a drink and some food. We loved it instantly, describing it charming and fun (The sign is a bit old Hollywood vanity though).
