Labour Day threw me off again! I’m so bad with long weekends, it’s like I lose track of time completely. I went to Meaford for Labour Day, so this week’s Meal Deal is in Collingwood.
My Labour Day weekend was spent at the cottage (last weekend to go…!) and I enjoyed some beach and backyard fun. To round off my weekend, we visited a … pizzeria? We had pizza and it pretty much looked like a pizzeria… so I’m going to assume it was a pizzeria.
499 First St.
My friends and I ordered three pizzas and one pasta dish to share.
We ordered a pie called the Green Eggs and Ham (Roasted potato, pesto, egg, bacon, spinach, and mozzarella). There were potatoes on top that I wasn’t expecting. Didn’t detract from the pizza though… although it probably didn’t really suit the name… maybe it’s just the slice I had, but the crust was terribly burnt on the bottom which made me avoid a lot of it. Overall, it wasn’t terrible…
Next was the Porky Pie (Tomato, basil, mozzarella, bacon, spicy sausage and prosciutto). I didn’t find the pizza spicy at all, which means (for my friends that love spicy food) the spice, was basically non-existent. We got whole wheat crust, which was kind of chewy…
Lastly, Cow Pie (Braised beef, roasted potato, spinach, mushrooms, onion, cheese sauce, and parmesan). The slice I had just felt like there was a giant slab of meat on it. I found that a bit off-putting and it was more like eating a large slab of meat rather than a pizza… it was kind of… eh…
We ordered a Mac and Cheese. It wasn’t bad but again it was quite… eh… The cubes of bacon were kind of crunch but I quite like crunchy so I liked it… but other than that it seems like it lacked something… and it was just… eh…
Overall, I wasn’t really impressed. I’m sure that if I got to try more I may have found something that would suit my tastes specifically… but the dishes I did try didn’t give me… much. And apparently, the service was questionable… as the waitress wasn’t happy about splitting bills and the way we paid it at the end of the day. I did get a large dose of Spice Girls, so that I suppose made my evening.
