Hey everyone!

So as all blogs that “go on vacation” I am going to give you a weather report. It’s been hot, there has been no reprieve. I repeat: it’s hot, no reprieve.

So Hong Kong has been fantastic so far. I’ve eaten many things, and am on my way in replenishing my waning wardrobe. But what else have I been doing?

Well, I’ve discovered a TV show that I’ve never heard of before. Close your eyes (after reading this paragraph) and imagine this: Top Chef, where the contestants have been deaged to the age of 12.

Tada! Welcome to Junior MasterChef (Australia). I don’t know how many people have watched this show, but Thursday night was the first time I watched it. I would like to say that it is absolutely adorable, but I am probably wrong. Precious might be the right word… anyways, moving on.

The episode I watched had them inventing a Thai inspired dish that had to use duck as it’s central ingredient. I barely know how to eat duck, let alone cook it. The dishes looked AMAZING! Then I wondered how it was possible to cook like that. Are these kids naturally just THAT talented? Are one of their, or perhaps both, parents chefs? Haven’t found an answer yet, so if you have PLEASE TELL ME!!

I find that even though they speak English, Australian wording is quite different and it amuses me when I think about common language but different usage. They call the little chefs “cheflings” and one of the judges said “If you see my luggage, just pop it aside,” when a conveyor belt started moving.

Watching them made me feel unworthy of stepping foot into the kitchen. But, how do these kids (around 12 years old) handle all that stress? They sound so grown up as well. It’s a lot of drama put into one as well. From what I can tell, they are taken out of school for this competition, and they’re parents/schools have to figure out correspondence so that they don’t fall behind. The judges are really nice, encouraging and helpful. It’s good for the kids that way I guess.

Will I be sitting in front of the TV and watching this again? Yes… mostly because the finale is coming up soon… and I want to know if Greta (11) will win.

(I wonder if there are copyright laws against the pictures I’m about to post up. Someone please tell me if there are.)
